Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Projects Significant Increase in Passenger Capacity this Summer

 

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) - After a 4.5 percent increase in passenger growth in the summer of 2018, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) expects the summer growth trend to continue in 2019.

ANC is projecting a 6 percent increase in aircraft seat capacity this summer season, for an additional 68,000 passenger seats from the 2018 summer season. Most of these seats will be filled by tourists seeking to experience Alaska. This growth in tourist numbers will add millions to the state’s economy.

“We’re excited that after last summer’s growth, the summer of 2019 is looking strong,” said Jim Szczesniak, Airport Manager. “Governor Dunleavy is driving the message that Alaska is open for business and ANC is working hard to do our part and provide the visitors that help drive growth in Alaska’s tourism industry.”

This summer:

  • Alaska Airlines, the largest air carrier at ANC, is increasing capacity between Anchorage and their primary hub in Seattle.
  • United Airlines is increasing service from New York from once per week to daily flights.
  • American Airlines is increasing capacity in the form of two new aircraft. From their primary hub in Dallas, American will be operating a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, and from Phoenix, they will be operating their new Airbus 321neo aircraft.
  • Air Canada is increasing flight frequency between Anchorage and Vancouver from daily to twice-daily service and extending their season by two weeks, to operate through the middle of September.
  • Allegiant Airlines, a new airline at ANC, is starting service from Bellingham, Washington.
  • Sun Country Airlines is offering nonstop flights to Las Vegas.
  • Delta Airlines is bringing in additional flights from their Salt Lake City hub.
  • JetBlue is returning, along with European airlines Condor and Iceland Air.
