Background and Information

Project Status

Due to funding constraints, this project’s construction scope has been scaled back. As part of the preferred alternative presented to the public, DOT will be constructing two roundabouts. One will be at Mendenhall Loop Road and Stephen Richards Memorial Drive, and the other will be at the Floyd Dryden intersection. As funding becomes available, the rest of the project proposed under the preferred alternative will be pursued.

Public meetings were held in November 2013, July 2014, and May 2017. Review the November 2013 comments.

Revised concept alternatives were presented at the July 8, 2014 public meeting. These alternatives consist of:

• a combination roadway and intersection capacity improvements
• access management
• pedestrian, bicycle, and transit facilities.

The concept alternatives include the “A Family”, which is a five lane roadway, and the “B Family”, which is a three lane roadway with roundabouts and/or widened signalized intersections.

In May of 2017, a public meeting was held introducing the preferred alternative based on comments from the previous meetings. The preferred alternative is a 3-lane road section with roundabouts at Steven Richards, Floyd Dryden and Mendenhall Boulevard; and can also be found on the documents page.

Project Schedule

The tentative schedule for completing the project is as follows:

• Summer 2014 – Complete traffic study and alternative selection
• Spring 2015 – Preliminary design and complete environmental document
• Summer-Fall 2018 – Agency Permits and Final Design Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Agreements

• Winter 2019 to Fall 2019 – Continued Right of Way Acquisition
• Winter 2019/2020 – Advertise project and award to construction contractor
• Spring 2020 – Begin Construction
